As I mentioned the other day, I currently have the ‘flu. This has prevented me from doing many things: I have been off work, had to cancel an appearance at a fundraising gig (I am a singer-songwriter, among other things), and have generally been able to do very little.
So what about my meditation practice? Well, for the first few days of the ‘flu, I was too ill even to do that. I couldn’t focus, couldn’t concentrate. However, for the last couple of days, although I am still unwell and not able to do much, I have at least been well enough to sit and meditate.
It’s an interesting activity, meditating when you’re ill. It’s so much harder to sit still, for one thing, when you keep having to cough and your nose is running. However, the headache, nausea and muscle pains certainly give you something specific to note! So my meditation practice hasn’t been exactly the same as usual, but at least I am now in a position to be able to continue my daily practice again.
